FIS Congress: green light for the World Cup calendars
The 54th Congress of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation held in Zurich today (Thursday 25th May) officialised the World Cup calendars for the 2023/2024 winter season. The dates for the Matterhorn Cervino Speed Opening, already published in recent weeks, have also been definitively confirmed.

November is still a long way off, and yet the men of the Matterhorn Matterhorn Speed Opening are not taking even a day off, because only those who work behind a major event know the many activities - on and off the piste - that have to be carried out in order to be ready. Because last year the lack of snow stopped the show at the most beautiful moment, this time it is clear that appropriate choices will be made to hold the first ever cross-border event, which will rewrite an important piece of Alpine Ski World Cup history.

Guest races instead of World Cup races
As is well known, the World Cup downhill races in Zermatt/Cervinia fell victim to the warm temperatures; the premiere of the first cross-border World Cup race had to be cancelled as a result, to the great regret of everyone involved. The fact that there was still a happy winner on the podium on Saturday, 29 October 2022, is thanks to the Zermatt Tourist Board and the partners of the Speed Opening, who organized instead of a World Cup race a guest race.

Audi FIS World Cup men’s Matterhorn Cervino races cancelled
Despite the greatest efforts and tireless commitment on the part of the organizing committee, the men's downhill races of the Matterhorn Cervino Speed Opening were cancelled on Saturday after the final snow check by race director Hannes Trinkl and assistant Raimund Plancker (men) due to the lack of snow and the safety situation on the course.

Matterhorn Cervino Speed Opening: winners take home the Matterhorn!
In Kitzbühel there's the golden chamois, while the World Cup race in Levi is traditionally associated with reindeer. A victory trophy will be awarded for the first time in Zermatt at the end of October and the winners of the first cross-border World Cup races can look forward to the Matterhorn – in the truest sense of the word.
