FIS Congress: green light for the World Cup calendars

The 54th Congress of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation held in Zurich today (Thursday 25th May) officialised the World Cup calendars for the 2023/2024 winter season. The dates for the Matterhorn Cervino Speed Opening, already published in recent weeks, have also been definitively confirmed.

"These were the dates we wanted," explains a confident Franz Julen, President of the Organising Committee. The glacier part of the Gran Becca slope is in much better condition than a year ago, due to the snowfall in recent weeks. In the lower section of the slope (it is not on the glacier, ed.) the natural snowfall gives us the opportunity to increase the snow deposits compared to last year. In addition, thanks to the two-week postponement, we will be able to produce more snow technical and for longer".

The work of the organising committee has hardly stopped. During the winter, operational meetings and inspections continued on the slope and in the areas that will host collateral events and facilities at the service of the World Cup. As soon as the winter season was over, the men of Cervino Spa began the operations of covering the snowdrifts (natural and artificial) with special tarpaulins, which will be useful at the end of the summer, when the preparation of the final section of the slope will begin. Snowfarming, already used last year, has been implemented: the two areas have become five, the storage area has also been changed and the amount of snow increased.

Matterhorn Cervino Speed Opening meanwhile has planned a series of promotional initiatives and presentations, building collaborations with other summer events in the region and beyond. After Maison & Loisir, the international event will be in Cuneo, host of the prestigious granfondo La Fausto Coppi - Officine Mattio. On Saturday 24th June, at 8 p.m., the presentation of the event in Piazza Galimberti with guests two champions of the Centro Sportivo Esercito: Marta Bassino and Elena Curtoni. Matterhorn Matterhorn Speed Opening will also be present on 28th May at Federica Brignone's party, on 4th June at the Coni National Sports Day, on 10th June during the Asiva circuit prize-giving and at the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing opening at Testa Grigia (Plateau Rosa). Other appearances are being finalised.
