The second men's downhill on Sunday has also been cancelled due to the heavy snowfall!

After Saturday's downhill, Sunday's downhill has also been cancelled due to the weather. The onset of snowfall in the early morning and the rising wind prevented the "Gran Becca" from being ready to race by 11.30 am. The safety of all those involved is not guaranteed in the current weather conditions.

Zermatt woke up on Sunday morning in a splendid winter coat.  This is good news for tourism and the upcoming winter. However, the recent snowfall is not in favour of the scheduled races.

Franz Julen, President of the local organising committee, says: "Today's decision is once again tough, but the right one. Nature has the last word. I am sorry for all those involved who have worked so hard for two years for this innovative project. Preparations for the coming weekend are already in full swing and we will do everything we can to be able to organise the two women's downhill runs. We are mountain people and won't give up easily."

Tickets for the coming weekend

Tickets for the women's weekend on 18 and 19 November are available at www.speedopening.com. A good two-thirds of the downhill course will be visible from the finish stands as well as from the "Cime Bianche Corner" in the finish area in "Laghi Cime Bianche", which is not the case at any other World Cup race.

Due to the limited spectator capacity in the finish area, the "Sunrise Fanzone" will be set up on Testa Grigia near the national border with a video wall, race commentary and catering facilities. Admission is free, but a mountain railway ticket is required.
